on one hand, treating culture as a property protects the work done by the creator by allowing them to have control over it. on the other hand, it limits the free use and rearranging creative work of other artists. so, i don’t think culture should be treated as property because artists should have the right to do what they want with their work. and it can also restrain innovation and creativity

In “future of writing is a lot like hip-hop” by stephen marche, the author explores the similarities between writing and hip-hop. marche talks about how with the use of AI generated tools, he was able to create some of his works discuss its limitation on the creativity and originality. In my opinion, although some may argue that AI is ruining creativity, at the end of the day it still using your inputs and imagination to create what you command. Online bullying and harassment is a huge concern nowadays. People are able to get away with heinous comments due to anonymity. Users feel more comfortable typing out about insults than saying it directly to their faces. Websites have rules but they are not enforced. Sites such as YouTube, Twitter, and TikTok are infamous for low agency, or moderation. Bullying can escalate into harassment if the user(s) is/are constantly targeting a specific person or group of people. There are many reasons that bullying happens and it is never justified. Common targets for bullies include the disabled, plus sized people, POC, LGBTQ+ individuals, and those who do not fit unrealistic beauty standards. Several comments containing slurs or hateful remarks go under the radar. On low moderation sites, hate speech is normalized. The consequences of cyberbullying can leak offline. When faced with hate speech, trolls. and bullies online, the targets will be left with low self-esteem, suicidal thoughts, depression, body dysmorphia, and even internalized feelings. Cyberbulying and harassment can become doxxing, in which someone leaks personal or sensitive information about an individual and blackmails them. Certain acts online are illegal and can get you arrested. It all needs to be addressed responsibly.

How does social media influence our diet?
I am interested in understanding the different ways social media influences our eating habits and the latest diet trends. Food and beverage companies use social media for marketing their products. Good or bad, these marketing strategies make us think differently about how and what we eat. In my research I will explore the biases, if any, in these strategies.

Culture should not be appropriated because doing so would be extremely disrespectful to its creators. A culture is made up of customs, arts, people, beliefs, and achievements of a particular nation. To take it as your own would be a huge disgraceful move upon the generations of people who established it. Traditions belong to the people of certain cultures plus there is a difference between homage, appreciation, and appropriation. People can create art of a culture and still be publicly respectful to it. It is okay to learn about and be exposed to several different cultures. Appreciation comes from admiration, respect and curiosity while appropriation comes from malice and racism. It is best to learn to be kind and respectful to other people’s cultures.
